In the early 1960’s, Lindsay Saker, the then agents for Porsche in South Africa finalized an agreement to assemble semi knock down Porsches locally.57 units were dispatched from the factory but 7 fell off the ship in the Suez Canal! The rest made their way safely to Johannesburg. The cars were primed body shells, which meant clients could spec their cars. Clients could select the color of their cars as well as interior trim. Other local content included the battery, tyres and the windscreen. These 50 Porsche 356 cars were the only Porsches assembled by a Porsche Importer anywhere in the world outside of Germany! This specific car has done 79500kms from new and has a full service history with the Agents and Porsche Specialists. The car has been completely restored. It is finished in ivory exterior with beautiful red leather interior. The soft top is in perfect condition. This was a nut and bolt restoration that took several years to complete and the attention to detail is unbelievable. Used, The 356 was the first production car for Porsche. It was a rear-engine, rear wheel drive sports car that was very light and had unmatched handling characteristics. The car was available as a two door coupe and also as an open top. Porsche engineers continued to improve the car in the years of production. This increased the cars popularity and also contributed to its success on the racetrack. Production started in 1948 and the first 50 cars were produced in Gmund, Austria. The factory relocated to Zuffenhausen in 1950 and production of the 356 continued until April cars were produced of which approximately half have survived. This specific car is a 1960 356 B Cabriolet and has done 103 000 kms from new. The car has been well maintained and is beautiful in Oslo Blue with black interior. This car is mechanically and cosmetically very clean. Car is running and complete, registered on the road and an engine and chassis numbers match car from the factory.
