A compact SUV GLA from Mercedes Benz has began its production at the A-Class assembly plant in Rastatt, Germany. The SUV was initially revealed at the Frankfurt Show in September immediately followed by the Johannesburg Motor Show a month later where it was unveiled to its South African fans. It will be available to its South African fans in April 2014. Initially in diesel variant and soon will be followed by the petrol models by the end of the year.
The compact is fourth among the five new compact models that are going to be built at Rastatt. Almost 70% of the production components are the same as in A-Class, so it can built on the same production base without affecting the A-Class production which is currently going on in three shifts to meet the demands.
Dieter Zetsche said that “Merc lovers are strongly demanding SUVs and compact vehicles, and this new launching will surely fulfill this demand of our customers as it is the combination of both the segments.” Not only on roads but off road also it will perform the best. For any kind of uneven roads and steep hills we have the true mountain boots in the G-Class.
Selvin Govender - the marketing manager at Merc SA said that “After receiving lots and lots of enquiries from our valued customers after the GLA teaser at the Joburg Motor Show, we have opened the ordered book already at all Mercedes dealers across South Africa.”
We have also provided our customers with an online facility where within a click a customer can forward their selected specifications including various options and packages to their local dealer.
