BMW is also now in the race of hybrid technology for its future SUVs by revealing its all new X5 eDrive concept for a public debut at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show. As from the name, it is an electrified X5, featuring a turbocharged four-cylinder engine along with a 95bhp electric motor powered by a lithium-ion battery. The battery can be charged from a standard plug socket. The X5 concept will be seen in three modes of operation: electric, hybrid and save battery.
BMW has made a remarkable additions in its hybrid X5 concept in order to distinguish it from the standard model. The concept in styled as an SAV i.e. Sports Activity Vehicle claiming the fuel efficiency of 26.3kpl and an all-electric range of 30km which can accelerate to a speed of 120kph of electric motor alone. BMW states this concept as the next logical step which will prove to be a milestone for the SAV segment.
It is the smartest application of BMW’s hybrid technology. The car this time gets the Silverflake metallic paint and special roof rails. The new hybrid technology is gradually gaining popularity among the SUV buyers. Not only BMW but recently Range Rover also announced to develop a sport hybrid and Porsche to develop a hybrid Cayenne which shows the popularity of this emerging technology.
