South Africans be ready for tighten your pockets as only counting hours to go for the petrol price hike which will be effective from tomorrow i.e. January 1, 2014 on New Years itself. South Africa will be facing a petrol price increase by 39c /litre while that in diesel by 32c/litre.
As per the statement from the department of energy, the reason behind this price increase is due to the global increase in the oil prices which were seen from November 29 to December 26, and in turn the rand also was weakened against the US dollar.
The price of 93 octane petrol and lead replacement petrol will increase by 39c while that of 95 octane will increase by 38c/l - according to the department of energy.
Looking at the diesel prices, both the grades will increase by 32c. And the paraffin price will also show at once the price hike between 39 and 52c/l.
The most troublesome situation is that not only the fuel price increase but parallely the fuel tax will also increase on the same day by 10.96c/litre.
