Finally they are here: BMW M3 Sedan and M4 Coupe for SA

Finally BMW has taken off the wraps and is ready to launch its “M3 Sedan and M4 Coupe” for the South African land. The launching can be interpreted as the release of the popular high performance sports car from the German automaker.

The M3 Sedan will be blended with more motorsport features while the M4 Coupe will behave as the basis for the “M model” and will be available with the four door variant for the first time - said Dr Friedrich Nitschke, President BMW M GmbH.

Looking at the engine specks, both the car will be feature with a new turbocharged six cylinder unit which increases the strengths of the turbocharger technology. BMW has rather followed the lightweight design concept with the models, roughly 80kg lighter than their predecessors. Both the variant will feature a 60 liter fuel tank and features  carbon fibre roof.      

The new engine unit with the ”M TwinPower Turbo technology” for both the M3 Sedan and the M4 Coupe delivers the maximum output of 317 kW between 5390 rpm and 7000 rpm, a slight increase than the previous version V8. The 550 Nm of torque produced in 3.0 litre is available across the wide rev range between 1800 rpm to 5390 rpm.  

Both the BMW M3 and the BMW M4 are capable to cover the run at the speed of 100 km/h in just 4.3 seconds along with the six speed manual gearbox. The fuel consumption is rated at 8.8 litre/100km with the CO2 emission of 204g/km in manual. As said above the BMW appears very particular in the matter of weight. The BMW M4 has a kerb weight of only 1497 kg and M3 just 23 kg heavier.

The most attractive feature you will find in the seven speed M double clutch transmission is something what BMW calls “Smokey Burnout” function. With this function the driver is allowed to move the rear wheels at some degrees when the car is at low speeds.

Both the cars will go on sale on the South African Land in the second half of 2014. But the pricing and specifications will be confirmed nearer to the release date.
