The sales of luxurious cars are rocking the floors of South African Showrooms. Last month Porsche alone sold 12 vehicles in SA with price of R680,000 for a Cayman to R2M for Gran Turismo.
In 2009, the sales of the German Car first made in 1931 hit a big number of 506 in SA. But last year the sales had unexpectedly reached the figure of 1,416- according to NAAMSA. Not only Porsche but, Maserati which sold 63 cars last year, sold 5 new cars last month.
However the sales figure of the James Bond Franchise, Aston Martin is not disclosed from their side. But according to a statement from the GM Rens Rademeyer, he sold as many as Maserati did. He believes in the fact that the company balances its sales target without abusing itself. Most of this Aston Martin car sales were seen in Gauteng. Rens says that the current car sales are far better and sustainable than what they were during the world financial crisis in 2009.
The SA sales market is currently booming for its sales in luxury cars. According to a recent news revealed from Porsche, SA was the second largest buyer in the Middle East and Africa region. Orders for new cars are increased by almost 100% compared to those in previous year.
The independent statistics of new vehicle sales, prices and export data to South Africa’s vehicle industry is provided by Jaco van Staden, the marketing director of RGT Smart. According to the data provided, the success of the Porsche is only due to the expansion of its 911 sports cars as well as increase in sales of Boxster and the launching of its new Cayman in April.
Jaguar brand has revived its brand again by the launching its F-type car. 35 new Jaguars were sold last month. According to RGT, 260 new cars were sold in “sports and exotic” category in July which was a noticeable increase compared to 227 cars sold in June. Cars with the price R900,000 were mostly seen in this sales.
The Porsche 911, the new Jaguar F-Type and the Mercedes-Benz SL play the biggest role in the sales of this luxurious wealth.
Looking at the cars with the price tag R400,000 or even less, Toyota 86 is biggest seller defeating Mazda MX-5 and the Subaru BR-Z.
The dealer principal of the second hand luxurious cars Mike Bruce said that the investment in these cars had its best period in the 12 months. Only the sell of Ferrari had to face problems probably due to the more available Ferrari’s in the market’s than never before.
Dr. Norman Lamprecht- NAAMSA Executive Director said that the luxurious cars are considered as the status symbol. Last month the new car sales were down by 0.3% while exports had fallen by 23%.
