The demand of compact SUV’s is hastening among the car lovers now a days. Almost all the manufacturers now have at least one SUV model in their series and slowly moving further by increasing the volume and number of models. The German automakers, Mercedes also took part in the race with its all new entrant Mercedes Benz with its GLA crossover.
The first official looks of GLA crossover are rumoured to be scheduled at the Frankfurt Show commencing next month i.e. in September. This concept of luxury SUV was uncovered by Mercedes at the 2013 Auto Shanghai Show, featuring many of the new German technologies and also design language. The production spec car was spotted in Dubai during some occasions and now the sketches released are of the final production version.
The GLA crossover is based on the MFA platform architecture which mainly uses front wheel drive layout. With the same interiors like A-Class, B-Class and the CLA sedan, GLA appears to be the extended version of the A-Class hatchback, but with different styling features and ground clearance. When launched GLA will prove to be a strong competitor of BMW X1 and the Audi Q3, crossovers which are comparatively more powerful than the A-Class hatchback.
The GLA is expected to be powered by a 2.0 litre four cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with the output of 209PS and 349 Nm of torque. The styling features includes laser-based headlights capable of projecting images and even video onto a screen or any other surface. You will also find a pair of HD cameras on the roof rack. The crossover will be the entry level SUV in Mercedes Benz’s range all over the world.
