Dastsun is an automobile marque owned by Nissan Motor Company and right now it is developing cheap car for developing markets. Datsun stands for Dream, Access and Trust (D.A.T.). On 20-March 2012, it was declared that Nissan would bring back the brand Datsun in South Africa, Indonesia, India and Russia. Nissan will launch its low-cost car brand Datsun for middle-class car-buyers of South Africa, which will also be launched in several growing countries. Nissan have declared that the company’s new model 'Datsun Go' is coming to South Africa. The name of the new car is taken from the first Datsun car, the DAT-GO, which was launched in Japan in the year 1914.

Datsun Go will have a 1.2-litre petrol engine with DOHC (dual overhead cam shaft) valve configuration with 12-valves and three cylinders, this may produce approx 1198cc of displacement capacity. You can speed up Datsun GO from 0 to 100 Kmph in about 15 to 16 seconds and top speed should be approx 150-160 Kmph. The exteriors and style of GO will provide a premium feel, especially with its frontage. The design of the headlight cluster is very aggressive with sharp edges. The interior is also with the lot of fresh elements, the top half of the dashboard, the round aircon vents, door handles etc are the ones that have been carried forward from the Micra. The Go has a mobile docking station for drivers to connect their smart phones.

The South African entry level car industry is very competitive, it would be difficult for Datsun to make significant business from the current market competitors like the Volkswagen Polo Vivo, the Ford Figo, the Toyota Aygo as well as the Opel Corsa. However, the better pricing and quality of the car will definitely welcome to this new car. Datsun Go may be launched in South Africa in the second half of 2014, the price has not still announced by company, however it is assumed to be around the R100 000.
