Audi South Africa recently launched its third generation Audi S3 3-door. It will be followed by S3 Sportback in November 2013.
The car will have an advantage of 2,0T FSI motor that will deliver a constant 380 N.m of torque between 1800 and 5500 r/min. Maximum power seen will be 206kW developed at 5500 r/min.
Local buyers will be benefited as they will have an option of S3 with manual or S tronic, twin clutch transmission. For the S tronic model, Audi has declared a sprint time of 0 to 100 km/h to be completed in 4,8 seconds (5,2 seconds with the manual transmission). Both the variants are driven electronically with the top speed of 250 km/h. S tronic is assumed to consume on an average just 6.9 litres/100 km while in manual model it is 7,0 litres.
All the corners receive the power by Audi’s Quattro all-wheel driving system. In S3 it will be seen electronically controlled and uses a hydraulically actuated multi plate clutch to transmit the power all the sides. In normal driving, the clutch sends most of the engine’s power to the front wheels. However when there is a slippage in the front wheel, within few seconds the power is transferred to the rear axle.
The new Audi A3 will comprise of xenon plus headlights with LED daytime running lights while flat lights in the rear in which the adaptive brake light is integrated, and are also fitted with light emitting diodes.
It is for the first time that in premium class the LED headlights are seen, previously which were available only in luxury class models.
A first in the premium compact class are the optional LED headlights, which previously have only been available in luxury models. The low beams are generated in two free-form reflectors with a total of nine high-performance LED chips. Ten high-performance LEDs in the matt aluminium trim provide the high beams.
The S3 comes with an S-specific single frame grille with an aluminium finish and the insert is matt platinum grey. The bumpers also features an aluminium look, double ribs which are integrated into the sideways air inlets. The rear bumper comes with the platinum rey diffuser that covers the exhaust system’s tailpipes. A large roof spoiler which generates downforce on the rear axle.
